My Recommendations

Have you ever wondered where to stay in Japan that won’t disappoint? After my recent trips in 2024/25, I’ve got the insider scoop! Furthermore, looking for that sweet spot between luxury accommodations and not breaking the bank? I’ve tested these top hotels in Japan myself—twice—and consequently, I’m sharing my honest favorites from my real experiences as a fellow traveler who’s found the perfect mid-price luxury hotels throughout Japan. Therefore, here’s where you should book on your next Japanese adventure…

How to Choose the Best Japanese Hotels in Tokyo for Comfort, Views, and Easy Transit

Tokyo: The Perfect Urban Base Near the Best Japanese Hotels in Tokyo
When I visit Tokyo, I usually stay in Shinjuku or Shibuya — two neighborhoods that consistently rank among the Best Japanese Hotels in Tokyo. You can walk to Yoyogi Park, Meiji Shrine, and Harajuku. The nightlife in Kabukicho and Golden Gai is amazing, and the food options are endless. Most importantly, these hubs offer major train stations with access across the city. My personal pick is Hotel Century Southern Tower — compact rooms with incredible views, a gorgeous lobby, helpful staff, and just 5 minutes from Shinjuku Station. I’ve also circled the general area in this Tokyo Pocket Guide to help you get your bearings.

Kyoto: Hidden Gems Along the River

Kyoto lovers, listen up! Surprisingly, I discovered the Genji Kyoto Hotel while searching for Marriott Points opportunities, and fortunately, I was able to use my points to book the rooms. In fact, this hidden gem instantly became my favorite! Specifically, with only 19 rooms, it’s intimate yet spacious compared to typical Japanese accommodations. Additionally, the staff remembers your name, and even better, the location on the Kamo river is so peaceful. What’s more, the zen style decor is absolutely stunning—I’m planning to copy their bathroom design someday! Honestly, I struggled to leave my room for tours!

Osaka: Hip and Trendy Accommodations

Have you been to Osaka? Well, I stayed at The Lively Hotel after reading amazing reviews online—and thankfully, it totally lived up to the hype! Indeed, such a hip and trendy place with a cool workspace and notably, incredible free coffee setup every morning. Best of all, the location is perfect! On our first day, we walked to Osaka Castle and subsequently, took quick taxi rides around the city. Without a doubt, if you’re visiting Japan, definitely check it out!

Niseko: Ultimate Ski Resort Experience

Heading to Niseko for some powder skiing? Then let me tell you about the Hilton Niseko Village Hotel! Undoubtedly, it’s the ultimate ski-in/ski-out experience—in fact, the gondola is literally 10 steps from the door! Conveniently, we rented our ski gear next door, and fortunately, the hotel stored everything for us. In addition, the lobby is gorgeous, and as Hilton members, we got free drink tickets and amazing breakfast buffets with Eastern and Western options.

Unforgettable Mountain Views and Onsen Experience

Our room had breathtaking views of Mt. Yotei (the Hokkaido version of Mt. Fuji) and snowy mountains. Additionally, we enjoyed the traditional Japanese experience of wearing Yukatas and slippers around the hotel. However, the onsen (hot springs) were incredible, especially the outdoor rotenburo with cold air on my skin while surrounded by snow! Just remember proper onsen etiquette: shower thoroughly before entering. Oh, and my travel tip: always pay extra for changeable bookings during Japan’s ski season—ultimately, it saved me when I accidentally booked the wrong dates!

Final Thoughts: Your Gateway to Japan

Whether you’re planning your first Japanese adventure or returning to this incredible country, clearly, having the right accommodations can truly elevate your experience. In summary, these hotels aren’t just places to sleep—they’re gateways to authentic Japanese culture, convenient bases for exploration, and sanctuaries after long days of discovery. Overall, they truly represent the best mid-luxury options I’ve personally experienced. Have questions about any of these properties or need specific advice for your upcoming trip?
